Confrontational speeches can be very significant. President Reagan’s challenge to Gorbachev to “tear down” the Berlin Wall was provocative, direct and a precursor to the end of the Cold War.
In 1994, Mother Teresa spoke at the National Prayer Breakfast in front of Bill and Hilary Clinton, and famously devoted much of her talk to the injustice of abortion.
Talk about “speaking truth to power.”
I have no doubt that Pastor Rick Warren has prayed for an end to abortion many times. Even Barack Obama — who is radical in his support for all forms of abortion — desires to reduce the number of abortions. And it’s not as if you can argue that the issue itself — the role of our nation in protecting innocent life — is insignificant.
So, will Pastor Warren pray for the protection of innocent life?
I don’t know about Pastor Warren, but I will pray every day for the President Obama as I did for President Bush.
