MISSING THE POINT

Today’s coverage in the The Arizona Republic of Janet Napolitano’s vetoes of reasonable regulation of abortion completely misses the point. The story attempts to make this into a battle between who is pro-life and who is pro-choice. What I told the reporter, and he failed to report, is that a vast majority of pro-choice Arizonans agree that children should not be operated on without their parents’ knowledge, and that tax dollars should not pay for abortion. Eighty to 90 percent of Arizonans agree with both of these propositions. And then the classic spin — a final quote from a “Democratic pollster” (read: spin doctor) who tries to make this a case of people acting politically to motivate their base.
The truth is, Janet Napolitano is way out of the mainstream on this, no matter how hard she, her pollsters, and the media try to pretend otherwise.
