SNOWFLAKE PARADE

We left Thursday night’s TV debate, went to a Friday press conference on crime (more on that later), then north to Flagstaff to speak at a gubernatorial forum sponsored by the Arizona Federation of Republican Women. Then we got up at 5 a.m. to head for Snowflake for their annual Pioneer Days.
My good friend Sen. Jake Flake, one of more than 30 legislators who supports me, was my host. Believe it or not, Sen. Flake — who is a rancher — convinced me to ride a horse alongside him in the parade.
Now I’ve been on a few trail rides, but I’m no cowboy. I asked for the old gray mare, and instead I got “Rock”, a male who was very antsy about all the parade noise, and probably not too thrilled about having an amateur on board. All I could think about was Michael Dukakis in a tank. After a few efforts to toss me … OK, that’s a bit of an exaggeration … Rock figured out who was in charge and we had a very pleasant ride in front of thousands of voters. And I think I got Rock’s vote.
