Congratulations to Chad Kirkpatrick, Tom Jenney and the board of the Arizona Federation of Taxpayers for an outstanding event today honoring legislators who believe you can spend your own money more wisely than the government.
And congratulations to my friend Sen. Ron Gould for scoring the highest on the organization’s tax hero scorecard — for the third consecutive year. Sen. Gould received the “Barry M. Goldwater Award for Legislative Excellence,” which was presented by former Congressman Barry Goldwater Jr.
Rep. John Shadegg, former Rep. J.D. Hayworth, State Treasurer Dean Martin and others gave brief speeches saluting liberty. Wally the Wallet also made a brief appearance, though he may want to think about closing his wallet in the future — he nearly brained Barry Goldwater Jr. as he was leaving the stage.
And with Don Goldwater also in the room, given the recent exchanges between Don and Barry Jr., there was a little concern that we might have an impromptu episode of “Family Feud.” But in keeping with the season, all remained calm.
