As a former professional sportswriter, I’ve always been amused by politicians who exploit the success of the local team during an election year. Take a look at Janet’s press release, in which she quotes herself giving an inspirational “Go Suns” speech. And this is an official Governor press release, not a campaign event. How convenient.
I have been a Suns fan since they began play as Arizona’s first major professional sports franchise in 1968. So I’m happy to celebrate “Suns Week,” and to see the Suns declared an “Arizona Treasure.” But inquiring minds want to know – why was Janet missing like Raja Bell during losses in Game 2 and 3?
This could become a huge campaign issue. OK, probably not.
