Amid much fanfare the newly minted Arizona quarters were put into circulation at the State Capitol today. When I watched the video of Gov. Napolitano’s remarks, I was struck by the similarity between her enthusiasm for the work of the coin commission and the way she took credit in 2006 for the work of the 9/11 Commission — until the Memorial’s anti-American comments became controversial, at which point she acted like it was former Gov. Jane Hull’s commission.
Now all we need is for Greg Patterson to find some anti-American image hidden in the quarter’s new design, at which point it will be the fault of Treasurer Dean Martin’s commission.
Meanwhile, while the Governor and other elected officials were celebrating the release of the Arizona quarter, they apparently were not proposing any solutions to the growing budget deficit that will take 8 billion of the new quarters to pay off.
