Today is a sad day — the 36th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, an unwarranted Supreme Court intrusion into the rights of the people to protect innocent human life that opened the floodgates to the loss of millions of lives.
Those of us who are continuing to make the case for the sanctity of life are encouraged that public opinion is turning our direction. Nonetheless, we remain one vote away from a Supreme Court that would likely conclude Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided. And now we have an unapologetically pro-abortion President who is sure to appoint justices who will uphold that awful decision.
I can’t help but wonder how many pro-life evangelicals and Catholics voted for a President who will continue promoting this culture of death.
Since Lyndon Johnson appointed abortionist Thurgood Marshall to the Supreme Court in 1967, we have had precisely TWO Democratic appointments, Ruth Bader Ginsburg in 1993 and Stephen Breyer in 1994, both of whom supported the killing of unborn children.
We have had however a staggering TWELVE (!) Republican appointments, none of whom I believe support fully the rights of the unborn. Three were neutrals (overturn Roe vs Wade but not rule Constitution guarantees unborn human rights): William Renquist, Antonin Scalia and (probably) Clarence Thomas. Seven were out and out abortionists: Warren Burger, Harry Blackmun, Lewis Powell, John Paul Stevens, Sandra Day O’Connor, Anthony Kennedy and David Souter. All seven support or supported unlimited killing of our children.
The final two, John Roberts and Samuel Alito, we do not know what their position is. They could be opponents of unborn human rights, supporters of rights or neutrals.
These people were all appointed by Presidents who claimed to be pro-life or their Vice Presidents who succeeded to the Presidency.
Our movement has brought this shattering and inhuman tragedy upon itself by not insisting, starting in 1969, that our Presidents appoint ONLY people who recognize that the Constitution, under the 14th Amendment, guarantees an unborn child’s right to life. We also allowed them to promote the unspeakable doctrine of “no litmus tests” which means that we run the risk of putting abortionists on the Court inadvertantly and costing millions of children their lives. But for these two blunders, the abortionists could never have won.
Most of or all of the horror of the abortion holocaust in this country could have been avoided had we but made our Republican Presidents aware of precisely the type of Supreme Court appointment we needed them to make. We never did.
Have we learned the painful lesson from this humanitarian catastrophe? No. John McCain in last fall’s campaign was stating that he had “no litmus test” for Court appointments and was therefore willing to sacrifice millions more lives.
We must make certain in the future we do not make this terrible tragic mistake again. Otherwise our children will continue to pay with their lives for our folly.

Oh, but what do I know….I’m just a religious fanatic nutcase according to those who ignore these very dire warnings.
