My husband, Arizona delegate Len Munsil, was asked to open the GOP Platform Committee session this morning with prayer:
“Almighty God, we thank you and praise you this morning for the opportunity we have in America to live in freedom and to freely worship you. We thank you today for that amazing privilege bestowed on us by our founding fathers even as we remember those around the world who suffer under leaders and regimes who punish people of faith. We pray dear God that we would never take our religious freedom for granted.
Father, we are thankful today for the opportunity you have given those of us in this room to propose ideas and policies that honor you and that will lead to blessing and flourishing for our people. We thank you that –because as a nation we honored you and your principles from the beginning — from the Mayflower Compact to the Declaration of Independence to our annual Thanksgiving celebration to the Pledge of Allegiance we recite today – because we have honored you and your Word from the beginning, you have blessed us with the freest, most prosperous, and most just nation in the history of the world.
And yet Lord we acknowledge we are not perfect. We acknowledge that we need your forgiveness, and your help, especially in healing the racial divisions in our country, in breaking down the barriers that divide us, and ask that you would enable us to truly become one nation under God. We thank you that we serve a political party founded on the moral principle of opposition to slavery.
We pray for your hand of comfort for all those who mourn the loss of loved ones and we ask for your protection over our cities and over this city in the days ahead, and ask that you would bless and protect those who protect us.
Father you have declared in your Word that when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, the people groan.
Lord God we pray for an awakening today among our leaders – we pray that you would forgive us of our sins and deliver us from evil, we pray for an awareness of your presence, your providence, and your superintending governance over all mankind
We thank you this morning that you are a good, good Father, that you care for us, that your amazing grace is sufficient to overcome all of our fears and trials and concerns, and we praise you and thank you for your mercies that are new this morning and every morning.
We ask that you would bless and guide us in all our deliberations today, we ask for your blessing on the United States of America, and for we ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.”
Amen. Powerful words & promises a sweet aroma.
I didn’t get up to hear your prayer but I read it and prayed as I read it.
